CRIMINAL: 70% of crimes are not reported to police

Victims of crimes, which usually react emotionally against them asking for more rigorous criminal, not "condemn" (not to notify the police) about 70% them, according to victimization surveys undertaken by Insper in 2003 and 2008, Office of Institutional Security (GSI) of the Presidency in 2001 and Foundation Institute of Administration, University of São Paulo (quoted by the newspaper O Estado de S. Paul, cf. the website of the State, 16:07:10). The rate of reporting of crimes is between 27 and 30%. Less than a third of the crimes are reported to the police!


The victim herself, as we see, helps (significantly) for impunity. In the context of crimes of theft, for example, there are few victims who report the facts to the police. According to the study by Pnad/2009, the population of 162.8 million people with 10 (ten) years of age or older, among the victims of theft, not the percentage that went to the police was 62.3% .

The main reasons cited for these victims were "insufficient evidence" (26.7%) and "not consider important" (24.4%), as illustrated in the chart below. In short, many crimes can not overcome the barrier of official news.
