The coalition is the union of political parties belonging to it, during the election process, acting for all purposes as a single political party. Their legal status is defined in the electoral legislation. The Electoral Code (Law No. 4737/65) in his art.105, with the wording of Law No. 7.454/85, which provides " is Entitled to 2 (two) or more related parties to the joint registration of candidates for federal deputy, state deputy and Councilman ". The art. 6 § 1 of Law No. 9504/97 defines properly structuring and functioning, prescribing:" The coalition will have its own denomination, which may be the combination of all the acronyms of the parties that comprise it, being assigned to it the prerogatives and obligations of a political party regarding the electoral process, and should operate as a single party in the relationship with the elections and in dealing with inter-party interests .
